Berkeley County Takes Bold Steps to Fight Hunger with Help from Westview Elementary, Lowcountry Bank, Publix
In a collaborative effort to tackle hunger, Berkeley County, S.C, backed by the Westview Elementary School in Goose Creek, Lowcountry Food Bank, and Publix, have launched a food distribution initiative.
Food Distribution Event at Westview Elementary School
The event, which took place on Tuesday morning, April 23, 2024, at Westview Elementary School in Goose Creek, saw dozens of underserved community members receive an assortment of fresh produce and canned foods.
President and Chief Executive Officer of the Lowcountry Food Bank, Nick Osborne, acknowledged the necessity of addressing the prevalent issue of hunger in Berkeley County, as he noted, “The demand for fresh produce and fresh food is clear when you observe the numbers of neighbours who find themselves with no options for obtaining food.”
Boost from Publix Charities
In a bid to ensure the ongoing success of these food distribution efforts, Publix Charities made a substantial contribution, furnishing the Lowcountry Food Bank with a large food pantry truck. Osborne expressed optimism about this development, saying the truck would provide the Food Bank with much-needed “flexibility in terms of when we can go and where we can go. It means that we can do more distributions to suit different situations.”

This shipment vehicle will be a game-changer for the Food Bank, enabling them to stock food for longer periods and maintain its freshness before giving it away. Thus, enhancing the overall distribution and benefiting more households in Berkeley County.
