Baseball Travels to Georgia Southern

Charleston, S.C. – College of Charleston

College of Charleston baseball hits the road tomorrow to take on Georgia Southern. This is the second straight Tuesday the Cougars and Eagles meet after Charleston won a tight 8-6 game in Statesboro last week. The two teams will complete the season series next week with a game at Patriots Point.

Last Time Out

Charleston dropped two of three against North Carolina A&T over the weekend, falling to 14-8 on the season with a 1-2 mark in CAA play. After a Friday rain-out, the Cougars and Aggies played a double header on Saturday. A&T took game one 4-0 before Charleston rallied to win game two 7-2. On Sunday, A&T jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the fourth inning. The Cougars made it 6-3 after the fourth before A&T broke the game open with 12 runs over the last four innings for an 18-4 win.

In the 8-6 win in Statesboro last week, Charleston got a big day from Dylan Johnson at the plate, finishing 3-for-4 with a pair of RBI. Kevin Madden also had a 3-for-4 day at the dish with Luke Wood and Cole Singsank each hitting homers. On the mound, Charleston starter Daniel Brooks gave up one run over two innings before Hayden Thomas threw three shutout innings in relief. Davis Aiken came on in the 8th inning to pick up a four-out save.

Scouting the Eagles

Georgia Southern hosted its second conference series over the weekend against Southern Mississippi. Weather also forced the two to play a double header on Saturday with the Eagles picking up a 13-1 run-rule win to start the day. Southern Miss responded to take game two to even up the series. On Sunday, Georgia Southern got a complete game effort from Ty Fisher to win 3-1 and take the series.

The weekend win moved the Eagles to 11-12 on the year with a 3-3 mark in Sun Belt play. Josh Tate still leads the Eagles in hitting with a .337 average with Kent Schmidt hitting .324. In the game last week, Tate finished 2-for-5 with a run scored while Schmidt finished 1-for-4 with a run scored. Half of the Eagles runs came from a pinch-hit three-run homer by JD Kaiser in the 8th inning that cut the Cougars lead to 7-6 before Aiken was called upon for the save.
