Charleston, S.C. – On Tuesday, a calm morning took a sudden turn when an armed robbery unfolded at a local store on King Street. The quick and decisive response from the police has the community breathing a sigh of relief, reminding us all of the importance of safety and vigilance.
It all happened around 11:29 a.m. when officers were dispatched to the Vans store in the 300 block of King Street following reports of an armed robbery. According to Charleston Police Sergeant Chris Stinson, startled employees informed the authorities that a man had walked into the store, brandishing a knife and demanding cash. Surprisingly, the employees weren’t willing to comply with the demands. Instead of handing over money, they stood their ground. Undeterred, the suspect decided to grab some merchandise before making a hasty exit.
It’s not every day that you hear about such bravery from retail employees, but these individuals showed remarkable courage during a tense situation. As the suspect fled the scene, it didn’t take long for the police to get involved. The Charleston Police Department, already on alert, found the suspect—later identified as Nicolas Patrick Jarmy Crowley, 23, from Mount Pleasant—within just three minutes of receiving the call.
What followed next was a brief foot chase, showcasing the officers’ dedication and swift action in keeping the community safe. The quick thinking of both the employees and the police officers certainly turned what could have been a much more dangerous situation into a successful apprehension.
The officers managed to catch up with Crowley and successfully arrested him. He now faces serious charges, including armed robbery and possession of a knife during the commission of a violent crime. After being taken into custody, Crowley was booked into the Al Cannon Detention Center, where he awaits a bond hearing.
While the police have effectively managed to apprehend the suspect, this incident serves as a reminder for everyone to stay alert. Sgt. Stinson emphasized the importance of reporting any suspicious behaviors. Police are currently asking anyone who may have additional information about this robbery to help out by calling the Charleston Police Department at 843-720-2422. Alternatively, they can visit the police department’s website to leave a tip.
This episode on King Street underscores the commitment of local law enforcement to ensure the safety of Charleston residents and visitors. The swift actions taken by both the Vans store employees and the police demonstrate how teamwork can effectively combat crime and enhance community safety. As the investigation continues, we can only hope for a swift resolution and a sense of normalcy to return to this bustling part of our beloved city.
