Holy City Missions to Open Warming Shelter at Aldersgate amid Lowcountry’s Near-Freeze Conditions
As North Charleston braces itself for the onset of near-freezing temperatures early this week, Holy City Missions is stepping up to provide warmth and shelter to residents in need. Operational at the Aldersgate Global Methodist Church on Remount Road, a winter warming shelter will begin welcoming guests on Monday and operate through Tuesday.
A Haven from the Cold
The warming shelter, conveniently situated at 1444 Remount Road, North Charleston, will serve as a refuge for those struggling to escape the grim winter conditions. The facility will officially open its doors for registration between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m., and will wrap up its services at 7 a.m. on both Monday and Tuesday. In addition to providing a safe and secure overnight accommodation for those who have nowhere else to go, the shelter will also furnish its guests with warm clothes and toiletries.
Inclusive Services on Offer
The Holy City Missions is not just offering a roof over heads but also ensuring that the basic needs of shelter dwellers are met during their stay. In addition to providing essential amenities like hot showers, those seeking refuge at the shelter will also receive a hot dinner and breakfast. To further their assistance, the shelter will provide guests with a grab-and-go lunch bag upon their morning departure. Those interested will also have the chance to participate in an optional devotion. However, patrons should note that pets are not permitted within the premises of the shelter.
Getting to the Shelter
For those seeking a way to the warming shelter, assistance is available. The local transportation service, CARTA, provides a direct route to the shelter. Those interested need only board the number 13 route and request a stop at the Aldersgate Winter Warming Shelter.
First Come, First Served
Given the conditions and the pressing need for such services, the shelter is likely to prove a popular haven. To manage the demand, the shelter operates on a first-come, first-served basis and has a capacity of 75 people. Therefore, early arrival for registration could prove beneficial for those requiring shelter over the two-night period.
The Holy City Missions’ initiative to open a warming shelter at Aldersgate stems from an urgent need in the community to safeguard those vulnerable in the face of imminent cold weather. While the facility may not have the capacity to house everyone who may need it, the mission’s effort should provide some measure of relief for those most in need.
The mission is urging affected people to take note and take advantage of the services on offer. It’s also encouraged to share this information with those who may need it most.
