Daniel Island to Host the 13th Annual 9/11 Heroes Run
As the world pauses to remember the tragic events of September 11th, 2001, Daniel Island, South Carolina is preparing for a remarkable day of community and unity. This Saturday, residents and visitors alike will come together for the 13th annual 9/11 Heroes Run, a heartfelt event honoring the nearly 3,000 lives lost on that fateful day.
A Run for Remembrance
This special run will see over 1,100 participants lacing up their running shoes in solidarity and remembrance. The event officially kicks off from the Charleston Fire Department on Daniel Island, with an opening ceremony starting at 8:30 a.m. and the race itself beginning promptly at 9 a.m.. It’s a beautiful opportunity not just to remember but to actively support efforts that continue to impact the lives of veterans and military families.
A Cause Close to the Heart
Hosted by the Travis Manion Foundation, the event is dedicated to loving memory of a Marine who made the ultimate sacrifice in 2007. The foundation’s mission now focuses on the important issues of mental health and well-being for veterans. This year’s race will benefit the Airman’s Attic on Joint Base Charleston, an organization that provides essential housing items to military families in need.
A Message of Unity
Race Director Travis Dodd expressed his optimism and excitement for the event, emphasizing its significance: “The terrorist attacks on 9/11 were something that rocked this country, but at the same time, it brought this country together. It’s one of those things we need now more than ever.”
He encourages everyone, whether they’re pacing for the run or cheering from the sidelines, to come out and participate: “I am most looking forward to our opening ceremonies. It’s going to leave you with goosebumps and tears in your eyes. The community support is one of those things that grabs at the heartstrings.”

Right now, there are just over 1,100 runners signed up, but Dodd and the race organizers are hopeful to exceed last year’s impressive total of 1,400 participants. Logistics and Details
The race will both start and end at 235 Seven Farms Drive, Daniel Island. Participants should be aware that packet pickup is already underway, and it’s highly encouraged to collect your race materials early. Limited parking is available behind the old BB&T building and in the Synovis buildings area, so plan accordingly!
After the race, there’s a festive after-party at New Realm, where everyone is invited to celebrate another successful 9/11 Heroes Run. An awards ceremony is planned for around 10:30 a.m., recognizing the achievements of the runners. It’s a wonderful way for the community to come together and share in the day’s triumphs.
