Atlanta-based Abbey Glass Expands to Charleston
Charleston welcomes Atlanta-based designer Abbey Glass, who recently expanded her occasion-ready womens-wear boutique to the historic King Street in late April. Glass, celebrated for her classic tailoring and custom fabrics in timeless designs, has marked her Charleston’s store opening with the introduction of a new bridal capsule featuring all-white ensembles.
The Abbey Glass Brand
Founded in 2015, Abbey Glass has made a name for herself in the fashion industry through her unique approach to womenswear, focusing on occasion-ready dresses and tops. The brand’s distinguishing factor lies in its blend of classic tailoring combined with custom fabrics and prints, reflecting the designer’s commitment to style and quality. Her store on Charleston’s King Street adds to the increasing retail options in the block of King between Queen and Broad streets.
New Retail Ventures on King Street
In addition to Abbey Glass, King Street has welcomed other new retail options such as Hill House Home, Loeffler Randall, and Minnow, enhancing the shopping experience for Charleston’s locals and visitors alike.
Little Bird on Queen Street
In an intriguing turn of events, former accountant and now local jewelry designer, Laura Cohen, opened her shop, Little Bird on Queen Street. Cohen’s collection includes dainty necklaces and earrings, with some pieces inspired by and named after area landmarks such as “Kiawah” and “Society Street”. Her designs feature various precious stones like moonstones, turquoise, rose quartz, and pearls, which are believed to possess mood-boosting properties. In the future, Cohen plans to hold classes, workshops and parties at the Charleston single, located just behind the Preservation Society of Charleston Shop.
Ship of Fools in Mount Pleasant
Mount Pleasant saw the grand opening of Ship of Fools on Ben Sawyer Boulevard. Billed as the “big sister shop” to Sullivan’s Island boutique Goldbug, owner Ashley Reid Martin has curated an eclectic collection of resort wear and accessories for the new 1,100-square-foot space. The new shop carries a broader selection of smaller scale brands, reflecting the owner’s commitment to slow-fashion values.
Unique Approaches to Fashion
Unlike Goldbug, Martin’s handmade jewelry collection will exclusively be available at the Sullivan’s Island boutique. The new space also features an outdoor area, where customers can enjoy pop-up events and other exclusive gatherings.
