Hunter, Thomas Pitch Their Way to CAA Awards
RICHMOND, Va.
A pair of College of Charleston hurlers who played integral roles in last weekend’s sweep of William & Mary have been honored by the CAA for their performances. Junior Aidan Hunter was named the pitcher of the week while freshman Hayden Thomas picked up co-rookie of the week accolades. The duo are the third and fourth Cougar pitchers recognized by the conference this season, joining Connor Campbell (February 26) and Jake Brink (March 18).
Hunter’s Stellar Performance
Hunter blanked the Tribe on three singles over eight innings in Saturday’s 4-0 victory. He struck out seven, including the side in order in the first, and induced double plays after the leadoff batter reached in the third and sixth. No William & Mary runner advanced past second, and he retired the final eight batters he faced. The Summerville High School graduate is 5-1 on the season and ranks fifth in the CAA with a 2.91 ERA.
Thomas’ Impressive Debut
Thomas picked up his first career win and save against the Tribe, allowing only two hits while fanning nine in 4.1 innings. In the series opener, he worked the seventh and eighth innings and struck out four, earning the win when the Cougars broke a 6-6 tie in the bottom of the eighth. Two days later, he came in with two on and two out in the seventh and ended the threat with a strikeout. He punched out the side in the eighth and finished to preserve a 3-0 win. Thomas has a 2.02 ERA and 26 strikeouts in 26.2 innings on the year.
