CHARLESTON, S.C. – College of Charleston is gearing up for an exciting matchup against city rival The Citadel at Riley Park on Tuesday at 4 p.m. The Cougars, with a stellar record of 28-10 (12-3 CAA), are on a hot streak, having won their last eight games and 14 of their past 15, including a sweep of William & Mary last weekend.

The Cougars’ 3-0 victory over William & Mary on Sunday marked their 1,100th win since the baseball program was reinstated in 1991. This impressive milestone has propelled Charleston into a first-place tie in the CAA alongside UNCW. The team’s outstanding performance in April has seen them rise to a record 18 games over .500 for the first time since 2018, with just two wins away from reaching the 30-win mark for the 20th time in the last 22 full seasons.

Series History and Recent Success

College of Charleston holds a commanding 58-42 lead in the series against The Citadel, a former Southern Conference rival. The Cougars have dominated the recent matchups, winning 20 of the last 21 meetings between the two teams. The upcoming game at Riley Park will be followed by another faceoff at Patriots Point on May 7.

In their lone meeting last year, Charleston secured a decisive 15-4 victory against The Citadel, with standout performances from players like Tyler Sorrentino, who recorded four hits and four RBIs, and Trotter Harlan, who contributed a home run and three RBIs.

Pitching Prowess and Defensive Dominance

The Cougar pitching staff has been in top form, entering Tuesday’s game on a remarkable 20-inning scoreless streak. Their impressive performance has elevated them to the third spot in the nation for team ERA at 3.48. Additionally, Charleston ranks second in shutouts with six and third in walks allowed per nine innings at 2.90.

For the upcoming matchup against The Citadel, Bishop England graduate Daniel Brooks will take the mound for the Cougars. Brooks, who returned to action after elbow surgery in 2023, showcased his talent in a recent game against Charleston Southern, allowing just one hit and striking out six batters in four innings.

As College of Charleston prepares to face The Citadel in this highly anticipated showdown, fans can expect an intense battle between the cross-town rivals. With the Cougars in top form and riding a wave of momentum, they will look to extend their winning streak and solidify their position at the top of the CAA standings.
