Brooks Stars on Hill, Offense Remains Hot in Win over CSU
Charleston, SC – In a dominant display of pitching and hitting prowess, the College of Charleston baseball team continued their winning streak with a resounding 10-2 victory over Charleston Southern on Tuesday. The game, which took place at Patriots Point, saw pitcher Daniel Brooks shine on the mound while the Cougars’ offense remained red hot.
Brooks’ Brilliant Performance
Daniel Brooks put on a pitching clinic, needing only 45 pitches to navigate through four innings. He allowed just one hit and struck out six batters to earn the win. Brooks retired the first eight batters he faced before giving up a two-out single in the fourth inning. His stellar performance set the tone for the Cougars’ success on the day.
Offensive Explosion
The College of Charleston’s offense provided ample support for Brooks, delivering their seventh double-figure run performance in the last 12 games. The team showcased their power at the plate, belting three home runs during the game. Avery Neaves, Cole Mathis, and Kevin Madden led the charge, with Mathis extending his hitting streak to 12 games and Madden boasting an eight-game hitting streak. Trotter Harlan also contributed with a double, extending his own hitting streak to nine games.
The Cougars got on the board early, scoring twice in the second inning. Neaves then doubled in the third to drive in another run, creating a 3-0 lead. In the fifth inning, Neaves blasted a two-run homer as part of a three-run outburst. Madden and Mathis kept the momentum going with solo shots in the sixth and seventh innings, respectively, putting the game out of reach for Charleston Southern.
Domination Through the Bullpen
After Brooks’ stellar performance, the Charleston bullpen continued to stifle the Charleston Southern offense. Andrew Duval and Garrick Murray took over pitching duties to finish up the game, with Duval allowing just one hit in 1.2 innings and Murray tossing two shutout frames. Both relievers also contributed by striking out a pair of batters each.

The Cougars’ victory over Charleston Southern marks their fifth consecutive win and their 11th win in the last 12 games. With a season series win over the Buccaneers secured, the team now turns its attention to an important home series against William & Mary in CAA play. Currently tied for second in the conference standings, the Cougars will look to continue their hot streak and climb up the leaderboard.
