North Charleston, S.C. – North Charleston Police confirmed Monday that a former assistant teacher at a Dorchester School District Two high school is facing an assault charge.

Charged with Assault

Tony Dunlap was charged with third-degree assault and battery, North Charleston Police spokesman Harve Jacobs said. Dunlap is accused of assaulting a student at the school on Feb. 1, police said. He turned himself in on Friday and was released on a personal recognizance bond, Jacobs said. Since the charge is a municipal charge, no booking photo was filed. Jacobs said no injuries were reported.

Employment Status

Dorchester School District Two said Dunlap is no longer employed with the district. “While unable to provide details due to privacy and legal considerations, the district continues to work with law enforcement,” the district spokesperson said in a statement.

Legal Action

The incident has sparked concern among parents and students at Ft. Dorchester High School. The district is cooperating with authorities to ensure the safety and well-being of all students. As the case unfolds, more details may come to light about the alleged assault.
