The City of Charleston’s Design Review Board (DRB) recently gave the green light for the preliminary designs of a brand new freestanding emergency facility. This much-anticipated project, dubbed the Johns Island Emergency, aims to provide essential medical care without residents having to make the long trek to West Ashley or downtown Charleston.

He understands the struggle and added, “Having your own hospital and medical center on Johns Island, so you don’t have to drive to West Ashley or downtown, is hugely helpful. And we’re very excited to help make that a reality out there.”

“There is some other site planning, they had medical offices that would be nearby,” Morgan mentioned. In addition, the project includes new roadways to facilitate easy access to these facilities. Now, before the construction crew breaks ground, Trident Health needs to jump through some hoops. The DRB set certain conditions earlier this week, including guidelines on landscape studies, window designs, and even the building materials that can be used. Even though the hospital is in the works, it’s important to remember that it’s a complex project and will take time. “It’s a few years further down the road,” Morgan stated.
