Washington, D.C. Gears Up for Exciting 2024 CAA Women’s Basketball Championship

The stage is set for a thrilling showdown as the 2024 CAA Women’s Basketball Championship bracket has been released. The tournament, presented by Primis, will take place at the Entertainment & Sports Arena in Washington, D.C. from March 13 to March 17. This marks the first time in league history that the championship will be held in the nation’s capital.

Exciting Matchups on the Horizon

Charleston enters the tournament as the No. 3 seed after clinching their spot with three consecutive conference victories. Stony Brook claimed the regular season crown and will be the top seed, with defending champion Monmouth securing the second seed after finishing the season on a seven-game winning streak. North Carolina A&T, with 13 conference wins, rounds out the top four seeds and receives a bye into the quarterfinals.

This year’s tournament is shaping up to be highly competitive, with five teams recording at least 12 conference wins for a second consecutive season. A total of seven teams reached double-digit victories in CAA play, marking a historic milestone for the league.

Tournament Schedule

The tournament action kicks off on Wednesday, March 13, with two first-round matchups. The day starts with No. 12 Hampton taking on No. 13 Hofstra, followed by a showdown between No. 11 Northeastern and No. 14 UNCW.

Second-round action begins on Thursday, March 14, with a full day of games, including matchups between No. 8 Campbell and No. 9 Elon, No. 5 William & Mary against the winner of Hampton/Hofstra, No. 7 Drexel facing No. 10 Delaware, and No. 6 Towson awaiting the winner of Northeastern/UNCW.

Friday, March 15, will feature the quarterfinals, with the top four seeds making their tournament debuts. The day’s lineup includes games between No. 1 Stony Brook and the winner of Campbell/Elon, No. 4 North Carolina A&T against the winner of William & Mary or Hampton/Hofstra, No. 2 Monmouth facing the winner of Drexel/Delaware, and No. 3 Charleston taking on the victor of Towson or Northeastern/UNCW.

The semifinals are scheduled for Saturday, March 16, with the winners advancing to the championship game on Sunday, March 17. The title game, set for 2 p.m., will be televised nationally on CBS Sports Network.

The Entertainment & Sports Arena, home to the 2019 WNBA champion Washington Mystics, adds to the excitement of the tournament. The arena serves as the official practice facility for the NBA Washington Wizards and the home court for the NBA G League Capital City Go-Go.
