In Charleston, South Carolina, a young man has been arrested and charged in connection with an episode of gunfire in a local neighborhood. Javon Tashawn Williams, a 20-year-old male resident of Charleston, has been charged with attempted murder amongst other crimes for his alleged involvement in the shooting.
The shooting incident occurred on March 11 near the intersection of Columbus Street and Hanover Street, according to police reports. Williams allegedly fired at multiple people during this event. The chaos did not stop there as Williams himself was shot, albeit with non-life-threatening injuries, inside a home, 20 minutes later. This later shooting was deemed ‘retaliatory gunfire’ by Sgt. Chris Stinson.
Williams was arrested on Tuesday and has been held at the Al Cannon Detention Center, pending a bond hearing. In addition to attempted murder, he has been charged with two counts of first-degree assault and battery, as well as possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.
Another party implicated in these events is a 15-year-old who was arrested in relation to the shooting. However, due to the individual’s underage status, their identity has been kept private. The juvenile defendant has been charged with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, four counts of first-degree assault and battery, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime, according to Sgt. Anthony Gibson.
The Charleston Police Department is seeking further information regarding the shooting incident. Members of the public who have information that might aid the investigations have been urged to step forward. Those willing to contribute can contact the on-duty central detective at 843-720-2422. To maintain anonymity, tip-offs can be directed to Crime Stoppers of the Lowcountry via 843-554-1111.
The extent of the damage and injuries from the shooting is yet to be fully disclosed as investigations continue. Further updates are expected as the police and the judiciary move forward in unraveling the details of this unfortunate incident.
