In Charleston, South Carolina, local creative Courtney Rowson and Amy Pastre are celebrating their 15th year of elevating brands through their creative studio, SDCO Partners. Initially serving a primarily local clientele, including brands such as Post House, Smithey Ironware, and Sullivan’s Fish Camp, SDCO has broadened its reach and grown its profile to a full-service firm with clients across the US.
Rowson and Pastre, both graphic designers, relocated to Charleston in the early 2000s and found their shared creative sensibilities soon drove them to create something of their own. After collaborating on several projects, the duo co-founded what was then called Stitch Design in 2009. They were at the forefront of integrating digital and print identity as a comprehensive solution for their clients.
Over the course of a decade and a half their business has bloomed from a two-person studio to an award-winning, 18-person, full-service firm. SDCO’s growth has been deliberate, driven by a keen ear to their clients’ needs and a knack for attracting the right talent.
SDCO takes a holistic approach to branding, going beyond merely designing logos and websites. They have extended their offerings to include custom typography, story, strategy, social media, and even physical spaces adorned with brand elements. Their broad range of services now allows SDCO to provide a cohesive brand experience, whether digital or physical.
Their creative work in Charleston is readily visible. It includes the stylish branding for the Post House, the quirky retro aesthetics at The Starlight Motor Inn’s Lounge, and the clever marketing for Smithey Ironware. Beyond their local hold, they have refined the Draper James label founded by Reese Witherspoon, elevating it with their indelible touch. Other notable collaborations include brands such as American Spoon, Auberge Resorts Collection, and Faherty, plus a diverse array of products, from eco-friendly diapers to olive oil packaging. Every project contributes to the expansive and varied portfolio of SDCO Partners.
Rowson and Pastre are conscious of the significance of brand in shaping the customer experience. From visual identity components to subtle narrative elements, every aspect is finely tuned to deliver a unique brand atmosphere. Their commitment to balanced brand-family integration has seen SDCO carve out its niche in the creative industry.
This year marks the 15th anniversary of SDCO Partners. Rowson and Pastre’s dedication to smart, nuanced, and layered storytelling has led them to hit their stride in the creative industry. Their ability to constantly adapt and innovate underlines their firm’s ever-evolving narrative as much as it does the brands they craft.
